1) Eat a plant based diet
You should strive for a high fiber diet, for which all veggies are important. A high fiber diet has been associated with reduced bowel movements, linked to reduced risk of breast cancer amongst women. Broccoli, kale, cabbage, and other cruciferous vegetables are some of the most protective vegetables out there, accompanied by garlic and onion. Whole grains and seeds are also advisable, as they help slow down bowel movements and cancer cell growth.
2) Don’t smoke
All types of cancer are increased by a habit of smoking, and breast cancer isn’t the exception. If you’ve been doing it for years, it may be time to quit and start taking care of your health. If you need help, don’t be shy and ask your doctor.
3) Avoid red meat
Putting a stop to red meat consumption will significantly lower your risk level by decreasing your exposure to anabolic steroids and hormones. Other foods to avoid are dairy products and eggs, since as little as 1 egg per day can increase by 3 times the risk of developing breast cancer.
4) Include 5-7 fruits and vegetables daily
Fruits such as berries are known for stopping cancerous cell growth. Apples, specially their peals, seem to have great properties for reducing breast cancer risk. It is important to eat several servings of fruit daily, as they come packed with vitamins and nutrients that will help your body prevent cancer cell growth.
5) Exercise at least 3 times a week
It’s recommended to exercise one hour a day in order to reduce breast cancer risk, but you can start with 3 hours a week, until your body gets used to the routine change.
